Located at Texas State Technical College, on the former Harlingen Air Force Base, the two-story, 38,000-sq-ft University Center was completed on time and on budget in June 2011 by the Harlingen office of SpawGlass Contractors.

The $7-million design-build project is slated to receive LEED-Gold certification.

Sustainable highlights include a high-albedo roof supporting 434 solar panels; a sun-shaded curtain wall; and reclaimed wood ceilings from the original barracks.
