The first phase to extend FM 1938/Davis Boulevard in Northeast Tarrant County began in late spring with the $15.2-million contract awarded to Ed Bell Construction Co. of Dallas. Completion is estimated by summer 2012.
The 2.2-mi first phase project from SH 114 to Randol Mill Road will be a six-lane divided roadway with raised curb medians from SH 114 to south of Dove Road. It will graduate to a four-lane roadway with raised curb medians to Randol Mill Road. The second 1.6-mi phase of FM 1938 from Randol Mill Road to FM 1709 is being developed.
The project has been awarded the 2009 Highways for LIFE $1-million grant by the Federal Highway Administration for its planned use of technologies to extend the life of the roadway, provide low noise and reduce carbon dioxide produced during construction.
