A contract for the first facility of the Airmen Training Complex to be built at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio was awarded to Dallas-based Balfour Beatty and Houston-based Satterfield & Pontikes in a joint venture. Merrick & Co. of Aurora, Co., will be the lead architect and engineer.
The $46-million contract is for a dormitory that includes space for 1,248 recruits, administrative offices and day rooms. It is one of eight housing units that will eventually be part of the ATC, along with four dining-classroom facilities and ATC campus utility infrastructure upgrades. Merrick provided architecture; mechanical, electrical, structural engineering; and interior design for the project, with K.M. Ng & Assoc. of San Antonio providing civil and exterior electrical engineering. Merrick will also oversee construction management.
