The city of Austin selected Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. and AECOM for a joint venture to provide preliminary engineering services for its proposed urban-rail project.
The transit system will serve downtown and central Austin. The planned streetcar and light-rail hybrid will stretch from the Mueller development to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. It will connect major employers such as the State of Texas, the University of Texas and major hubs such as the Texas State Capitol complex and Austin’s central business district.
Houston-based LAN and Los Angeles-based AECOM–with offices in San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, Austin and Fort Worth–will develop preliminary engineering plans in accordance with the Federal Transit Administration, National Environmental Policy Act, state and local requirements. The plans will allow identification of right-of-way, environmental mitigation measures, staging for construction and a capital cost estimate. The information will be considered by the Austin City Council.
