Larry Trejo Executive Director Trejo says that infrastructure work along the U.S.-Mexico border as well as Base Realignment and Closure work at Fort Bliss have kept firms busy in recent years, but they also enticed many large firms from other regions to enter the El Paso market. Now that federal work is subsiding, Trejo is concerned about whether small contractors can survive. "The large firms are extremely aggressive and do such a great job of bidding that they can cherry-pick the good jobs," he says. "Now that there's not a lot in the pipeline, we worry if there's enough for our local guys." |
