FKP Architects’ senior associate and project designer, Mezio S. Zangirolami, AIA, LEED AP, was recently named among the Houston Business Journal’s 2010 “40 Under 40” honorees. The annual awards program identifies 40 leaders on the rise who excel in their industries, are respected business leaders and show leadership in their communities. Zangirolami graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor’s degree in architecture.
TEXO, the combined chapter of the North/East Texas Chapter of the Associated General Contractors and the Associated Builders and Contractors North Texas, named Hank Mouser of Balfour Beatty Construction, its 2010 Safety Professional of the Year. The award recognizes professionals who demonstrate a commitment to safety excellence by leading their company’s safety and environmental efforts and helping to raise the level of safety awareness for the construction industry.
Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Kimberly Shambley of Dallas to the Texas Real Estate Research Advisory Committee for a term to expire Jan. 31, 2015. The committee advises the Texas Real Estate Research Center at Texas A&M University. Shambley served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force, received a bachelor’s degree from Miami University in Oxford and a law degree from the University of Illinois. Also, Jason Peeler of Floresville was appointed by Gov. Perry to the Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District for a term to expire Feb. 1, 2013. The board oversees the management and conservation of groundwater in Atascosa, Frio, Wilson and Karnes counties. Peeler received a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University.
SpawGlass in Houston promoted John English to president, Senior Living and Campus Housing Division. English will continue to be responsible for the leadership of the SpawGlass’ Senior Living and Campus Housing Division operations. Rene Capistran has also been promoted to president, South Texas Region, of SpawGlass. Capistran will continue to be directly responsible for the leadership of the South Texas operations.
KAI Texas in Dallas named Jeff Blackwell as construction manager. He holds a construction management degree from Texas A&M University. Also, Robert Nieporte, AIA, accepted the position of senior project architect. He holds a bachelor’s of architecture from Texas Tech University.
Parsons Brinckerhoff named Gabriel Johnson a senior engineering manager in the Houston office. He will be responsible for planning, project development and design activities for PB’s clients in Texas. He received a bachelor’s of science in civil engineering from the University of Houston.

Skanska USA in San Antonio, announced that its building business unit has named Taylor Shultz as corporate counsel for its Midwest region, Mike Makris as director of project accounting for its Texas region and has promoted Josue Reyes to business development manager. Shultz received his juris doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law and his bachelor’s of arts from Washington and Lee University. Makris received his bachelor’s in corporate finance from Wayne State University. Reyes earned a bachelor’s in construction science from Texas A&M University.
W.S. Bellows Construction Corp. of Houston announced that safety engineer Adrian Alvarez has been named the 2010 Patrick J. Kiley Excellence in Leadership Scholarship recipient by the AGC Houston Chapter. Alvarez is a full-time student at the University of Houston-Downtown, where he is working on his degree in safety management.
Austin Industries in Dallas added John Foley to the position of vice president of Human Resources. Foley will lead Austin Industries’ corporate human resources function. He received a bachelor’s of science in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University and an executive master’s of business administration from Southern Methodist University. He has held several human resources roles.
