Raytheon to Provide
Open-Road Tolling in Texas
With the selection process completed,
Raytheon and TxDOT will begin discussions aimed at executing
a Comprehensive Development Agreement.
TxDOT Approves Raytheon
The Texas Department of Transportation and the Texas Transportation
Commission recently approved Raytheon Co. as the prime contractor
to develop, build and maintain open-road toll-collection systems
in Texas. Once implemented, Texas' open- road tolling system
will include the most advanced technology in the world and
will facilitate convenient and safe travel for millions of
drivers throughout the state.
With the selection process completed, Raytheon and TxDOT
will begin discussions aimed at executing a Comprehensive
Development Agreement. This agreement will provide all the
specific terms and conditions under which Raytheon would provide
the open-road toll-collection systems for designated project
segments over five years. Raytheon will also be responsible
for maintaining these toll-collection systems for a period
up to eight years after each goes into operation.
Raytheon is an experienced supplier of high-tech open-road,
free-flow electronic tolling systems in the world. Its systems
are in operation on three continents, including the world's
first all-electronic, open-road toll highway in Toronto. Raytheon's
systems provide video tolling, transponder tolling and vehicle
classification for all vehicles and allow all vehicles to
use the toll road.
Raytheon's major subcontractors are San Antonio-based Zachry
Construction Corp. and Arcadis, a global firm with a strong
presence in Texas that will provide civil engineering services
for the project. Raytheon, headquartered in Waltham, Mass.,
has three business units in Texas including Network Centric
Systems, headquartered in McKinney.
Speed
Fab-Crete Appointed to Architectural Precast Association
Speed Fab-Crete Inc., based in Fort Worth, has been accepted
as a new member of the Architectural Precast Association,
a national trade and certification organization. Speed Fab-Crete
is the first general contractor in the state of Texas to be
awarded membership.
"It is an honor for Speed Fab-Crete to be recognized
by the APA as we are the first full-service builder in Texas
to be accepted," said Carl Hall, vice president of operations.
"To be considered for membership, firms must have an
exceptional and longstanding record in the production and
quality of architectural precast concrete," Hall said.
"So we are proud to be involved in this organization."
The APA was formed in 1966 to advance the interests of the
architectural precast concrete industry in North America and
to promote high standards of workmanship. Architectural precast
concrete may be expressed in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors
and textures.
Speed Fab-Crete's manufacturing plant regularly produces
structural and architectural precast concrete walls, which
form a building's exterior. While such work occurs at the
plant, site development for the building and creation of its
foundation occur simultaneously, thus accelerating the building's
completion.
