Plano Contractor Wins Golden Trowel Award

The award, presented at the World of Concrete Expo, was given for the "flattest, most level concrete slab," which was poured at Nordstrom North Park Center in Dallas.

Hill & Wilkinson Receives Golden Trowel Award

The Plano-based firm of Hill & Wilkinson Ltd. recently received the prestigious Golden Trowel Award at the World of Concrete Expo for pouring the "flattest, most level" concrete slab. The international competition included entries from the United States Canada, Brazil and Chile.

The concrete slab at the Nordstrom North Park Center in Dallas involved five concrete pours, averaging 35,000 sq. ft, each for a total of 211,000 sq. ft. of concrete.

NAWIC Crystal Vision Winners

The National Association of Women in Construction recently announced the winners of its 11th annual Crystal Vision awards program, which recognizes individuals who promote, expand and encourage the role of women in the construction industry.

Edith Stanfield is the recipient of the Crystal Achievement award, which is awarded to a NAWIC member, and Faye Turner is the recipient of the Crystal Vision award, which is awarded to a nonmember of NAWIC.

Stanfield is president of Fort Worth-based S&J Electric, where she oversees all aspects of corporate management.

Turner is the founder and executive director of Women Helping Women.

The recipients of this year's awards were selected by a panel of three judges: Doug Curtis, director of chapter development, Associated Builders and Contractors; Michael Holland, executive vice president, American Council for Construction Education; and Norbert W. Young, Jr., president, McGraw-Hill Construction.

Beck Group Wins Trio of Awards

For the second year in a row, the Dallas Chapter of the American Institute of Architects named The Beck Group Architectural Firm of the Year.

The Beck Group also won in every category for which they were nominated in the annual American Subcontractors Association awards program, sponsored by the Dallas chapter of the ASA. The Beck Group received the Outstanding General Contractor award for its high-quality projects and service to the community. The firm also received the Outstanding Project Team award and the Outstanding Project award (more than $25 million) for its work on the RadioShack Corporate Campus in Fort Worth.

The firm was also presented with ASA's Vision Award to recognize the creative and innovative contributions that The Beck Group has made to the architecture, engineering and construction industry.

In addition, QUOIN honored Beck with awards for three projects. The Susan M. Frank arts and humanities building at the Episcopal School of Dallas, the Henry C. Beck, Jr. Park downtown Dallas and the Baylor University Sciences Building in Waco.

Bartlett Cocke Wins General Contractor, Project Manager of Year

Bartlett Cocke General Contractors recently announced that the company was named General Contractor of the Year by the San Antonio Chapter of American Subcontractors Association for the fourth time.

Darrell White was named "Project Manager of the Year" for 2004.

White has more than 30 years experience in the construction industry and 25 years as a Bartlett Cocke employee.

"I am deeply honored," White said. "To know that I was selected by my peers means so much to me both professional and personally."
