LEED-ing the Way for New Construction Statewide

Haynes and Boone First Tenant for One Victory Park

Dallas’ largest law firm, Haynes and Boone LLP,  will be the first tenant in the city’s One Victory Park, a 20-story, 456,000 sq-ft Class A tower under development by Hillwood and Hines south of the American Airlines Center.

Haynes and Boone signed a lease for up to 175,000 sq ft on six floors in One Victory Park. The firm is the lead tenant in the new building.

In July 2008 the firm will move from 216,000 sq ft in the Bank of America Plaza in downtown Dallas to 175,000 sq ft in Victory Park. One Victory Park, the first of two buildings being jointly developed at Victory Park by Hillwood and Hines, sits along the west side of Victory Ave., adjacent to a one-acre park. One Victory Park will be an office component of the master-planned, multi-use development.

The building is precertified as a silver Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Core and Shell Development. LEED is sponsored by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Granite Properties Starts Construction on 14-Story Office Building

Granite Properties Inc. started construction last month on a 14-story office building in Westchase. Granite Westchase II will be a companion tower to the Dallas-based developer's 310,000-sq-ft office in Houston.

The new structure will feature 318,000 sq ft of Class A office space when completed in spring 2008. The building's lobby and public areas will be finished in glass, stone and wood. The property is 40 percent pre-leased.

Houston’s Kirksey architects is designing Granite Westchase II. The new tower will be constructed in accordance with LEED.

Trammell Crow Merges with CB Richard Ellis Group

Trammell Crow Co.'s proposed merger with a wholly owned subsidiary of CB Richard Ellis Group Inc. moved forward recently when the Federal Trade Commission approved early termination of the waiting period.

The merger agreement was entered into on Oct. 30. CB Richard Ellis Group Inc. has acquired renowned Dallas-based Trammell Crow for approximately $2.2 billion. Under the terms of the merger agreement, Trammell Crow's stockholders will receive $49.51 for each share of common stock they hold.

With CBRE already much larger than its competitors, the transaction will likely make it  the first firm of its kind to crack the Fortune 500. Once the deal goes through, the firm will have combined pro-forma 2006 revenues of approximately $4.4 billion and 21,000 employees, according to a statement by CBRE at the time the deal was announced.

Eagle Roofing Products Plans New Midlothian Manufacturing Plant

Eagle Roofing Products plans to break ground in late 2007 for a new concrete roof tile manufacturing facility in Midlothian. The company plans to deliver its first tile runs from the facility by 2008.

A division of Burlingame Industries, Eagle wants to expand its national presence in the tile roofing market. Eagle will invest more than $35 million in the 225,000-sq-ft plant and expects to employ 200 employees at the new facility during its first year in operation. The new plant will manufacture four styles of tile specifically for customers in Texas and surrounding areas.

The construction of Eagle's Texas plant follows the expansion of production facilities in Phoenix, Ariz., and Stockton, Calif. A plant in central Florida is also nearing completion.

Two Houston Firms Earn Constructor Safety Awards

Two Houston firms recently received honorable mention awards in the “Heavy Construction Other Than Building Construction” category for their region at the Constructor Safety Awards as part of the Construction Users Roundtable National Construction Conference in Tucson, Ariz.

L Con Constructors and S&B Engineers and Constructors Ltd., both of Houston and both members of ABC’s Greater Houston chapter, were honored for their work.

The Constructor Safety Awards are part of CURT's Construction Industry Safety Excellence program and are presented to individual construction firms that have achieved “outstanding safety performances over the past three years.”

Intertech Flooring President to Chair Workforce Development Board

Bill Imhoff, president of Intertech Flooring of  Austin and San Antonio, was inducted as chairman of the board of WorkSource, the Greater Austin Area Workforce Development Board.

Imhoff will chair the 27-member board of directors for the 2006-2007 fiscal year. The board comprises business, economic development, education, labor, community organization and public sector leaders. It is one of 28 workforce boards established by the Texas Legislature in 1995.

As WorkSource chairman, Imhoff will play a key leadership role in setting policy and directing a $35 million annual budget for workforce programs in the Central Texas area.

PlainsCapital Bank Builds New Main Bank in Weatherford

PlainsCapital Bank, the second largest privately held bank in Texas and 15th largest in the U.S., opened its new main bank location in Weatherford recently with a grand opening ceremony.

The 8,895-sq-ft bank is a freestanding, classic stone structure accented by rough-hewn pine, dormer windows and a metal roof.

The project's architect is Parkhill, Smith and Cooper of Lubbock. Imperial Construction of Weatherford was the contractor, while Clinton Project Services, also of Weatherford, was the project manager.


Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Plans Regional Health Network

Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center plans to create a regional health network to serve the rapidly growing Cypress Fairbanks community of Houston. Anchored by the 160-bed acute care Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center, the network will develop new services and facilities for the community.

Facilities and services within the new network will include a new three-story 60,000-sq-ft Cy-Fair Professional Building, which is under way on the hospital campus. The building will house primary and specialty care physician offices, as well as ancillary services.

Fluor Named One of Safest Companies by Occupational Hazards

Irving-based Fluor Corp. was recently named one of America's Safest Companies for 2006 by Occupational Hazards magazine. Fluor Corporate and Fluor Hanford, a unit of the Fluor Government Group were jointly recognized.

Fluor Hanford in Washington and its subcontractors at the DOE are part of one of the largest environmental cleanup projects in the world. From the 1940s to the 1980s, the Hanford site produced two-thirds of the country's supply of plutonium for national defense.


Marmon Mok Expands Organizational Structure

San Antonio architectural firm Marmon Mok has expanded its organization with several key promotions and a new logo. Its new structure consists of “studios,” focusing on a unique practice type. In addition to existing studios in education and health care research; new studios for government, sports and financial services were added.


Nichols Road Building Expands Into San Antonio and Valley Areas

Irving-based Nichols, formerly Conley Lott Nichols, has expanded its territory for the Terex CMI brand of equipment under the Nichols Road Building division. Nichols has branched out to wider Texas territory with Terex CMI reclaimer/stabilizers, as well as parts, service and support in the San Antonio and Valley areas.
