Fort Bend County Jail Expansion
PROJECT COST: $66,000,000
Work at the Fort Bend County Jail includes 213,000 sq ft of new construction and 40,000 sq ft of renovations to the existing jail facilities.
The new nine-story jail tower with linking connector is being added to the existing county building and includes an additional 1,008 beds to provide relief from over-crowding. The new tower will also house a monitoring and control center for the jail compound, while the administrative offices, kitchen and laundry facilities remain in the existing tower.
Additionally, the project’s updated technologies and amenities will increase safety, security and efficiency through direct supervision operating methods. The improvements are projected to meet state compliance requirements until 2025 and will also be a cost benefit by minimizing the overflow of prisoners that are transferred to other counties.
