Through a series of mockups and pre-construction meetings with each trade, the level of quality was established. With the help of the architect and owner, the contractor–W.G. Yates & Sons–pushed the quality of construction beyond the norm.

For example, in the culinary arts area, ceramic tile is full height and exposed corners could be damaged by cart traffic or other exposures. Yates worked with HKS and Birdville ISD to offer a solution: the use of a stainless-steel corner bead at no additional cost. The fix was aesthetically pleasing and served the function.
